How many programs can I save on my DVR?

Spectrum DVRs come in different hard drive sizes, so their recording capacity varies. High-definition programs also take up more space than analog and standard-definition programs.

  • Motorola DVR
Typically, a Motorola DVR can record and store up to 100 digital hours, up to 43 analog hours and up to 21 HD hours, or a combination thereof.
  • Cisco/SA
Typically, a Cisco/SA with an 80 GB hard drive can record and store between 30 and 50 hours, and models with a 160 GB hard drive can store up to 90 hours of standard definition digital programming.

If you need more storage space, we support external hard drive connections via the External Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (eSata) port on Cisco/SA and Motorola DVR receivers.

Scheduled recording will occur in the background when the DVR is off. This is true even if both tuners are being used for recordings. DVRs don't need to be turned on to record.

How do I start recording a program?

The quickest way to record a program with your DVR is to press the red REC button on your remote. This will open a menu with the different recording options for that program.
