Self-Install Kit Contents

The contents of your self-install kit will vary based on whether you are installing a new modem or replacing an old modem.

Spectrum Internet Self-Installation (Home Delivery/Spectrum Store Kits):

Obtaining a Self-Install Kit

Currently, there are two ways to get an Internet Self-Install Kit.

  • Home Delivery Kit: Shipped directly to you. The kit generally arrives in three days or less. Contact us to order.
  • Spectrum store: Use our store locator and pick up the kit at a store near you.
If you request to pick up a Self-Install Kit by online chat or phone, the representative will place an open work order for you. Your order remains open for seven business days. If you don't pick up the Self-Install Kit within that time, the order will be cancelled. Only the account holder and authorized users may pick up equipment at a Spectrum Store for self-install.


  1. An internet-compatible computer. Your computer will be needed during the self-installation in order to properly complete the installation.
  2. A current subscription to at least Expanded Basic TV service with Spectrum.
  3. Understanding and agreement with the Self-Install Terms.
Note: A Failed Self-Install for any reason other than Spectrum-issued equipment failure will require a professional installation that will result in a service charge.
  1. You have an active cable outlet within 6 feet of the modem.
  2. You feel comfortable enough to attempt the self-install process, which includes connecting cables to the modem and computer, using a web browser, etc.

New Internet Service Installation

Follow the steps below to install your Spectrum Internet, or use the instructions included in your self-install kit.

Connect Your New Modem


Connect one end of the long coax cable to the cable wall outlet and the other end to the modem.

If a TV is connected to the cable wall outlet:

  1. Disconnect the TV cable from the wall outlet.
  2. Connect one end of the short coax cable to the outlet in the wall and the other end to the single connector (IN) side of the splitter.
  3. Reconnect your TV cable to one of the (OUT) connectors on the splitter.
  4. Connect one end of the long coax cable to the other (OUT) connector on the splitter and the other end to the modem.
  1. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the modem and the other end to your computer.
  2. Plug in the power cord that came with the modem.

Activate the Modem

  1. Open your browser and go to our self-activation site and select Install New Service to activate the modem.
  2. Follow the prompts to complete activation.
Note: If you attempt to install your own device from our authorized modems list that does not meet the speed tier you ordered or if we cannot determine the device qualification, you'll get a message that notifies you of this and you'll be asked to acknowledge this before you proceed.
