Installation Instructions

Follow the steps below to install your In-home WiFi router or the instructions included in your self-install kit. You can also download an installation guide   for your WiFi router.

Note: Please make sure you understand and agree with the self-installation terms and conditions. If you fail to self-install for any other reason other than Spectrum-issued equipment failure, you'll require a professional installation that will result in a service charge.

Before You Begin:

If there's an Ethernet cable connecting your modem to your computer, disconnect the Ethernet cable from the computer before you install your router.

Installation:

  1. Attach the stand to the router.
  2. Unplug your modem.
  3. Plug your modem back in and wait approximately two minutes until the modem turns back on.
  4. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to your modem and the other end to the yellow internet port on your router.

  1. Connect the power cord to the router, then plug it into an outlet. The router is ready to use when the power light changes from amber to green. The lights for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz should light up, indicating which WiFi bands are available. If none of the lights turn on, make sure the Power On/Off button is in the ON position (pushed in).
  2. Connect a wireless device to your router.
    1. Open the software utility that manages the WiFi connections on your device.
    2. Look for your unique Network Name (SSID) beginning with "MyCharterWiFi" or "MySpectrumWiFi." It's printed on your router and on the stickers provided.
    3. Enter your unique preset password, which can be found printed on your router and on the stickers provided.
    4. Follow steps a-c to connect other devices.
    5. You can also use another Ethernet cable (not provided) to establish a wired connection from the router (using ports 1-4) to a device such as a laptop or desktop computer.
  3. Open your browser and confirm that you're connected to the internet.

Wireless Name/Password

Your router has a unique preset WiFi Network Name (SSID) and Network Key (Password). The default SSID and Network Key are uniquely generated for every device to maximize your wireless security. This information is printed on your router.

If you want to customize your WiFi network name and password, or if you have an existing WiFi network and want to use the same network name and password for your new WiFi network, follow these steps:

  1. Using the instructions and cables provided in the self-install kit, hook up and activate the new wireless gateway.
  2. Connect a device (tablet, laptop or smartphone) to the new wireless gateway using the network name and password on the wireless gateway equipment label.
  3. Open a browser and then enter the IP address for the wireless gateway listed on the table below.
  4. Sign in using the username and password on the equipment label or listed in the table below.
  5. Follow the instructions listed below to customize your network name and password. If you customized your previous WiFi network, you can have your devices automatically connect by customizing your new network with the same network name and password.
  6. Save your changes and write down your network info.
