Programming the TV with codes

The Spectrum 1060BC3 Remote Control is pre-programmed to operate the Spectrum receiver (cable box) issued to you, an RCA TV, a Toshiba DVD player, and a Pioneer audio receiver. The following instructions apply to devices other than these default brands.

Note: If you're using a TV/VCR combo or TV/DVD unit scroll to Setting Up a combo Unit.
  1. Turn on a device and insert the appropriate video media, (e.g. DVD or cassette), if applicable.
  2. Locate the corresponding 5-digit programming code for your device, which can be found above or listed in your user manual.
  3. On the remote control, press a device key once (i.e. AUX, DVD, TV, CBL or STB).
  4. Press and hold SETUP until the selected mode key blinks twice.
  5. Enter a 5-digit code listed for your device. If correct, the selected mode key will blink twice.
  6. If the selected mode key emits a long blink, repeat steps 3 through 5 and try entering the same code again.
  7. Aim the remote control at the device and press POWER (or Play) once. The device should turn off. If the device doesn't turn off, repeat steps 2 through 5, trying each code for your brand until you find one that works. If it still doesn't respond, follow the instructions below to search for the correct code.
Note: You'll need to repeat steps 1 through 4 for each device you want the remote control to operate.

Setting Up a Combo Unit

If you own a combo device such as a TV/DVD or TV/VCR:

Note: If you've located a setup code that works for your combo device and a separate TV code is also listed, you'll need to program this code into the remote to control the volume.
  1. For a TV/DVD combo, turn on the unit and insert a DVD. (For a TV/VCR combo, insert a videocassette).
  2. Using the remote control, press DVD once. Then press and hold SETUP until the DVD key blinks twice.
  3. Locate the brand name of your combo device and enter the first five-digit code. If entered correctly, the DVD key blinks twice.
  4. If the DVD key didn't blink twice after entering the code's last digit, repeat steps 2 through 3 and try entering the same code again.
  5. Aim the remote control at your combo device and press POWER once. The device should turn off. If it doesn't respond, repeat steps 2 through 3, trying each code listed for your brand until you find one that works. If it still doesn't respond, follow the instructions below to search for the code.

Searching for Your Code

If your device doesn't respond to the Spectrum 1060BC3 after trying all of the codes listed for your brand, or if your brand isn't listed try searching for your code.

Use the following device code digits to control a specific device:

  • 0 = Cable (dedicated to cable only).
  • 1 = TV.
  • 2 = DVD/VCR.
  • 3 = Audio.

For example, to search for a code for your TV:

In search mode, the remote control sends IR codes fromits library to the selected device, starting with the most popular code first.
If the TV doesn't turn on, slowly press and release CH- to go back through the codes, and then press SETUP when the TV turns on.

If you have set up the Spectrum 1060BC3 Remote Control by searching for your device code, you may need to find out which five-digit code is operating your equipment.

  1. Turn on your TV.
  2. On the remote control, press TV once. Then press and hold SETUP until the TV key blinks twice.
  3. Enter 9 9 1. The TV key blinks twice.
  4. Press 1 (the device code digit for your TV). The TV key blinks twice.
  5. Aim the remote control at the TV and press POWER once.
  6. Press and release the CH+ key continuously, then stop when the TV turns off.
  7. Press POWER to turn the TV on and then press SETUP to lock in the code.
  8. To search for the codes of your other devices, repeat steps 1 through 6, but substitute the appropriate key (e.g. AUX, DVD, CBL, or STB) for the device you're searching for.

For example, to find the code that's operating your TV:

  1. Press TV once on your remote, then press and hold SET UP until the TV key blinks twice.
  2. Enter 9 9 0. The TV key blinks twice.
  3. To view the code for the first digit, press 1 once. Count the number of times the TV key blinks (e.g. 3 blinks = 3).
  4. If a code digit is 0, the selected mode key does not blink.
  5. Repeat step 3 four more times for the remaining digits. Use 2 for the second digit, 3 for the third digit, 4 for the fourth digit, and 5 for the fifth digit.

To check for other device codes, repeat steps 1 through 4, and substitute the appropriate key (e.g. AUX, DVD, CBL, or STB) for the device you're checking.
