Managing Settings for the WiFi Router

Directly connect the Ethernet wire to your computer from the Netgear router. Open a web browser window to test for an internet connection. If there's no internet connection, check all cable connections and power cycle the router. Type http://192.168.0.1 in the address bar of the web browser and press Enter.

Next, choose Wireless Settings on the left side.

Change Network Name (SSID) to a name that you'll recognize. The example below displays "CharterSub," but you can choose anything.

Select Wireless Channel 1, 6 or 11.

Enter WEP Passphrase for Keys (Example:chtrxxxx). This field is case sensitive. Select Generate and then Apply.

Select the WPA-PSK Encryption to configure WPA security.

Type a customer-defined passphrase (password), and choose Apply to save changes.

Managing Settings for the WiFi Router

To manage settings on your WiFi router, you have two choices:

  1. Begin by directly connecting an Ethernet cable to your computer from the Netgear 6300 WiFi Router.
  2. Connect wirelessly. On your WiFi-enabled device, choose the WiFi Network name found under Wireless Settings on the WiFi router sticker, Then enter the Network Key (Password) listed on the WiFi Router sticker.

Open a web browser window to test for an internet connection. If you don't have an internet connection, check all cable connections and power cycle your Netgear router.

Enter http://www.routerlogin.net in the address bar of your web browser and press Enter.

To change the WiFi Network Name (SSID) on the 2.4GHz band, type in a new name in the Name (SSID) field under Wireless Network (2.4GHz b/g/n) and select Apply.

To change the Network Key (Password) on the 2.4GHz band, type in a new password in the Passphrase field under Wireless Network (2.4GHz b/g/n) and select Apply.

To change the WiFi Network Name (SSID) on the 5GHz band, type in a new name in the Name (SSID) field under Wireless Network (5GHz a/n/ac) and select Apply.

To change the Network Key (Password) on the 5GHz band, type in a new password in the Passphrase field under Wireless Network (5GHz a/n/ac) and select Apply.

We do not recommend channel selection changes. But, if you want to make changes, you can do so by selecting another value from the Channel Selection dropdown, either under the Wireless Network (2.4GHz b/g/n) or the Wireless Network (5GHz a/n/ac) sections and then selecting Apply.

Note: Changing the Channel Selection may degrade your Wireless Network performance.

We do not recommend changes to Security Type, but you can make changes by chooseing a new value under either the Wireless Network (2.4GHx b/g/n) or the Wireless Network (5GHz a/n/ac) sections and then choosing Apply.
