Follow the steps below to activate a new modem or replace an old modem for your Spectrum Internet service. Use the quick links provided to navigate to the section of your choice.

Note: These steps apply to Spectrum Internet customers only. Spectrum Business Internet customers are required to use authorized Spectrum-issued modems. Learn more.

Connect Your Modem

  1. Refer to your self-install kit or get detailed instructions.
  2. Open your web browser.
  3. A Spectrum web page should automatically open to Identify Your Account. If not, access the activation website.
Note: Spectrum recommends connecting your modem directly to a wall outlet and not using a splitter. If you must use a splitter, please make sure it is rated at 3.5 dBmv.

Install New Modem

Once you've accessed the self-activation tool:

  1. Select Install New Service.
  2. Enter your Telephone or Account Number and Zip Code.
  3. Choose Next and follow the steps for Internet Self-Installation.
  4. Test your connection by visiting Spectrum.net.
  5. If you need further assistance, please contact us.

Replace Existing Modem

The following steps will help you replace your old modem.

Note: DOCSIS 1.0/1.X modems are no longer supported on our network. To get a replacement modem, contact us or visit a Spectrum store. Please recycle your old modem or bring it to a Spectrum store for proper disposal. If you do a modem swap with us, you'll receive a mail return label in your package which can be used to return your old modem.

Once you've accessed the activation tool:

  1. Select Replace My Equipment.
  2. Enter your Account Number.
  3. Enter the Cable RF MAC Address or CMAC Address (serial number) located on your old modem.
  4. Choose Next and follow the steps for Internet Self-Installation.
  5. Test your connection by visiting Spectrum.net.
  6. If you need further assistance, please contact us.

Note: If you exchanged your old modem for a new modem at a Spectrum Store, your receipt provides both the old and new MAC addresses (serial numbers) as shown below.

If you attempt to install your own device from our authorized modems list that doesn't meet the speed tier you ordered or if we can't determine the device qualification, you'll get a message that notifies you of this and you'll be asked to acknowledge this before you proceed.
