What is the Spectrum TV App?

The Spectrum TV app gives you more choices for watching your favorite programming at no extra charge. Watch live TV or hundreds of free shows and movies On Demand, browse guide listings, get programming suggestions and more.

What is Spectrum Guide Narration/TalkBack?

TalkBack is a screen reader by Google, available for download on Android devices with Android 3.2 and above. TalkBack provides audible feedback so you can enjoy the Spectrum TV app without the need to see the screen.

Turning on TalkBack

Turn on TalkBack through the settings menu of your device.

Open the notification banner at the top of the screen by dragging two fingers down the screen from the top of your device. Then:

  1. Tap the Settings icon.
  2. Tap the Accessibility option in Settings.
  3. Tap TalkBack to turn it on or off.
Note: Don't turn on the Voice Assistance feature available on Samsung tablets. Also, don't enable the Samsung text-to-speech engine. These features aren't Spectrum-supported and won't give you the proper experience.

TalkBack Tips and Tricks

TalkBack Tutorial

A TalkBack Tutorial is available on most Android Devices and is usually displayed when accessing TalkBack for the first time. To access the tutorial, follow these steps:

  1. Tap the Settings icon.
  2. Tap the Accessibility option in Settings
  3. Navigate to the TalkBack option and open it.
  4. On the TalkBack page, open Settings in the upper right corner of the screen.
  5. Navigate to launch the TalkBack Tutorial.

Turn on Accessibility Shortcut for Compatible Devices

You can turn on an accessibility direct access that lets you turn on TalkBack without using sight:

  1. From the Settings menu, select Accessibility and then select Direct Access.
  2. Move the switch to the ON position.
  3. After turning it on, you'll hear an audible confirmation.
  4. Navigate to TalkBack and select ON.

Now, to turn TalkBack on or off, tap the Home button 3 times.


You can use touch or linear navigation throughout the app.

Touch Navigation

To explore screens using touch navigation, slowly slide your finger around the screen. TalkBack will narrate the components on the screen that you're highlighting. You can use this to explore screens and find your way around lists.

When you've highlighted the item you want, double tap anywhere on the screen to select.

Linear Navigation

To explore one item at a time in sequence, swipe one finger left or right to jump to the next or previous item. Swipe two fingers up or down to scroll.

Typing Text

The keyboard will open when you select a text field.

Explore the keyboard by sliding your finger over the keys. The characters will be spoken when you hover over them.

To type a character, lift your finger from the screen when you hover over the character you want and then double tap anywhere on the screen.

Edit Typed Text

Hover over the text field you want to edit and then double tap anywhere on the screen to open the keyboard.

Using the Spectrum TV App

Live TV

Select the Live TV icon at the bottom of the screen and choose a title. While watching live programming, you can:

  • Tap on the video to display full screen. Tap the full-screen video to return to the list of live programming.
  • Select the speech icon in the lower right-hand corner of the screen to manage your Closed Captioning and SAP (secondary audio program) settings.
  • Restart live programs marked with an arrow.


Select the Guide icon at the bottom of the screen to browse available TV listings. You can use the Guide to filter or search for specific titles, as well as watch and record programming.

To navigate the Guide:

  1. Scroll left, right, up or down to view all available TV listings.
  2. Select a program to watch now or record on your DVR for later.
  3. Tap on the magnifying glass icon to search for specific titles.
  4. Select Filter to view your Favorites, HD channels or titles available to watch through the app.

Explore the Guide using linear navigation or touch, and double tap a program to watch or get more info.

DVR Manager

Note: This feature is only available to customers with Spectrum DVR service.
View recorded programs, scheduled recordings and manage your series recording options. Select the DVR Manager icon at the bottom of your screen and then choose a program you've recorded to Watch on TV now, Delete or add to your Watch Later list.


Record Programming

To record programming through the Spectrum TV app:

  1. Select the Guide icon at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Scroll left, right, up or down to view all available TV listings.
  3. Select a program and then choose Record.

On Demand

Select the On Demand icon at the bottom of the screen to browse programming in Collections and My Library.


View TV shows, movies and kid-friendly programming On Demand. You can browse by network or alphabetically, and save some shows to watch later.

My Library

View a list of Recently Watched programs, as well as those saved to Watch Later. Select a recently watched program for additional information and other ways to watch.

Closed Captions (CC)

When turned on, Closed Captioning displays audio as onscreen text.

You can turn closed captions on and off while watching TV:

  1. Tap the screen to open player controls, and then use linear navigation to find the Closed Caption icon.
  2. Tap the Closed Caption icon to open Accessibility Controls and turn Closed Captions and SAP on or off.
  3. Select Done to return to your program.
